A few weeks ago, I was in León for something special I am working on, and since I had an extra day, I decided to take a quick trip to San Miguel de Allende. I have been to San Miguel before, but I needed a quick getaway for some solo time and inspiration. Even though part of the time I was still on-call for work, I was still determined to eat, walk and shop my way through this cozy, charming town in just 24 hours.
3:15 PM: Check in at the lovely Casaluna Boutique Hotel.
Since I was not staying long, I did not invest much time in searching for the perfect hotel or AirBnB. I knew I wanted to stay in a centrally-located, Instagram-worthy boutique hotel, so I booked Hotel Casaluna on a whim since it was a good deal. The hotel was everything I wanted, except it was more enchanting than I imagined and had exceptional service.
The entrance to my room, which way right in the middle of the hotel´s courtyard.
My adorable room. I loved the barely-pale-pink walls that contrasted with the rustic fixtures.
Afternoon wind blowing through the windows.
4:00 PM: Late lunch at Café Rama.
I had read about this café on a blog while I was on my way to San Miguel. This eclectic little restaurant has deliciously fresh food, so I decided to stick around and finish up my work that afternoon with a double espresso and a heaping piece chocolate cake.
A mish-mosh of furniture at Café Rama.
An arugula salad and the best shrimp tacos I have ever had.
9:00 PM: Dinner and a margarita at the Azotea.
11:00 PM: Walk home through the parroquia to enjoy a stunning view of the cathedral.
10:00 AM: Coffee at Mesa Grande.
My plan was to wake up early and enjoy a long, leisurely breakfast, but since that didn´t happen, I stopped at La Mesa Grande for coffee and a pastry to take with me on my walk to the Mercado de Artesanías.
Mesa Grande makes all of their baked goods in-house, and these apple pastries had just come out of the oven when I walked in to the shop. Resisting the tart, sweet and buttery goodness was out of the question.
10:30 AM: Lost (literally) in the streets of San Miguel de Allende.
11:00 AM: Mercado de Artesanías to pick up gifts for family and trinkets for my new apartment.
12:00 PM: Balancing out that apple pastry with green juice from the frutería.
1:00 PM: Stopped for an antipasti plate at the Antigua Trattoria Romana.
2:45 PM: A quick espresso at Café Oso Azul before heading back to León.
I could have stayed all day in Oso Azul´s courtyard, but I will be back soon!
If you have any questions about San Miguel or other parts of Mexico, feel free to leave me a comment.
